After buying a plan, open your My eSIMs tab and tap your new eSIM. On iPhone, you'll be sent straight to iOS settings to add the eSIM in one step. On Android, you'll see a QR code — scan it from your phone's eSIM settings.
Wi-Fi is required for the initial install, but not after.
Instantly. Your eSIM is delivered and ready to install within seconds of checkout — no shipping, no waiting. You can buy one from the airport gate and be connected before takeoff.
Tip: install it before you leave for your trip while you're still on Wi-Fi, and just enable it when you land.
Most phones from 2018 onward support eSIM: iPhone XS and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, and many others.
Check yours fast: open Settings → Cellular on iPhone, or Settings → Connections → SIM manager on Android. If you see an "Add eSIM" option, you're good.
Roamata works on most unlocked phones with built-in eSIM support. Common compatible models include iPhone XS/XR and newer, iPhone SE 2nd generation and newer, Google Pixel 3/3a and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, Galaxy Note20, and Galaxy Z Flip/Fold models.
Many newer Motorola, OnePlus, Oppo, Sony, Xiaomi, and Huawei phones also support eSIM, but Android support can vary by exact model, carrier, and country. A quick check is Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM on iPhone or Settings → Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM on Android.
Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. Some regional variants, including many iPhones sold in mainland China, do not support eSIM even when the same model name does elsewhere.
A physical SIM is the small plastic card you slot into your phone. An eSIM does the same job but is built into your phone and provisioned digitally — no card, no swap, no tray.
Because there's nothing to ship, an eSIM activates instantly and can live alongside your existing SIM. Most modern phones support both at the same time, so your primary number keeps working while a Roamata eSIM handles your travel data.
No — once the eSIM is installed, it works like any other line on your phone with or without the app.
That said, the app makes things much easier: check your remaining data on the go, top up without needing a browser, manage multiple eSIMs from one place, and reach support quickly. Recommended but optional.
Yes — turn off data roaming on your primary SIM before you travel. Otherwise your home carrier may charge expensive roaming fees in the background.
Then turn on data roaming for your Roamata eSIM. This sounds backwards, but Roamata uses local partner networks abroad — to your phone, they look like "roaming," so the toggle needs to be on. We'll show you the exact path to that setting on the eSIM detail page.
Roamata eSIMs are data-only — they don't come with a phone number, so no native voice calls or carrier SMS.
Use data-based alternatives: WhatsApp, iMessage / FaceTime, Signal, Google Voice, or Skype all work great. Your primary number stays available for traditional calls/texts when on Wi-Fi or your home carrier.
Yes. Your Roamata eSIM is a separate data line — your primary number stays active for calls, texts, and iMessage/WhatsApp/Signal. You just use Roamata for cheap, fast data instead of expensive carrier roaming.
To save battery and avoid roaming charges, switch your primary line's data off for the trip while keeping the line itself active.
Yes. Sign in to the Roamata app on your new device — your eSIMs appear under My eSIMs. Reinstall it on the new phone.
Once installed on a new device, the old install stops working. The eSIM can only live on one device at a time.
No. Carrier rules only allow one device per eSIM. Installing on a new phone automatically invalidates the install on the old one.
If you need data on more than one device, buy a separate plan for each, or use Personal Hotspot / tethering to share your connection from one device to another.
Open the Roamata app, tap your eSIM in My eSIMs, and the ICCID is shown in the order details (long number starting with `89`).
You can also find it on iPhone under Settings → General → About → [Roamata eSIM], or Android under Settings → About phone → Status → SIM status.
In the Roamata app, tap your eSIM under My eSIMs and select Rename. On iPhone, you can also change the label in Settings → Cellular → [your eSIM] → Cellular Plan Label. Android: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → [your eSIM] → Name.
Renaming helps when you have several eSIMs installed. It's purely cosmetic — service isn't affected.
Fixed plans give you a set bucket of data — 5 GB, 20 GB, etc. — over your trip. Best for short trips or light data needs.
Unlimited plans give you a daily allowance of high-speed data every day. After your daily cap, you stay connected at lower speeds. Best for long trips and streaming.
Open the app, tap your active eSIM under My eSIMs, then Top up. You can also top up from your account dashboard on the web. The top-up uses the same eSIM you already installed — no reinstall, no QR code, no signal interruption.
We'll also email you when your data is running low so you don't get caught out.
Unused data does not roll over. Once your plan's validity period ends, any remaining data is forfeited.
If you have time left in your trip, just buy a top-up — you don't need to reinstall the eSIM.
Your eSIM stops carrying data once the plan expires. But you don't need a new eSIM — just open the Roamata app and top up the same line. Service resumes within seconds.
If you don't have Wi-Fi to access the app, you can briefly re-enable your primary SIM's data, top up, then switch back. Topping up is fast and uses very little data.
Open the Roamata app — your active eSIM shows live usage on the My eSIMs card with a progress bar for GB used and days remaining.
You can also see it natively: iPhone → Settings → Cellular → [Roamata], or Android → Settings → Network & internet → SIMs. Note that the system view sometimes lags behind by a few minutes; the app is the source of truth.
Roamata works in 170+ countries and territories. You can buy a single-country plan for trips with one stop, or a regional plan (Europe, Asia, Americas) for multi-country travel.
Pop into Shop in the app or browse our Destinations page to search for your destination and see live coverage and the local carriers we partner with.
Yes, your eSIM connects to 5G wherever it's available on our partner carriers. Roamata partners with top-tier local carriers, so your eSIM uses the fastest network your phone supports — typically 5G in major cities and 4G/LTE elsewhere.
Sometimes your status bar shows LTE even when 5G is active. This is normal — iPhones display whichever network the *primary* SIM is using in the status bar. Run a speed test if you want to confirm 5G speeds.
Yes, tethering and Personal Hotspot work on most plans. Useful for sharing your connection with a laptop, tablet, or travel companion.
A few local carriers we partner with restrict hotspot use. If yours doesn't work, contact us — we'll let you know whether it's a carrier limitation and help you pick a plan that allows it.
Heads-up: tethered devices use data from your same plan, so it can deplete faster. Keep an eye on usage if your plan is fixed-size.
Plans that haven't been installed are refundable within 30 days. Reach out to us at support@roamata.com or via the contact page and we'll process it.
If your eSIM was installed but isn't connecting after troubleshooting, contact us — we'll work with you to either get it working or arrange a refund.
Once an eSIM is installed and activated, it's tied to our refund policy — see the refund question above. You can't cancel mid-plan and get a partial refund, but if something isn't working, contact us.
If you simply finish your trip early, you don't need to cancel anything. The plan expires on its own and you won't be charged again.
All major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Your card details are tokenized via Stripe — we never store the raw card number.
You can pay in your local currency — we support USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, JPY, and CNY, with a live conversion shown at checkout.
Carrier roaming jacks up the price — daily fees, per-minute charges, and overage rates that often only become clear when the bill arrives. Many plans also require activating an add-on or contacting your carrier first.
With Roamata, you know exactly what you're paying before you travel. Buy a plan, install the eSIM, done. No surprise bills, no carrier intervention, no negotiating with customer service from another time zone.
Yes. After purchasing, you can share the eSIM via email — the recipient gets the QR code and install instructions in their inbox, and installs it on their phone with one tap.
Look for the Share via email option on the eSIM after purchase. Great for parents, travel partners, or surprising someone with a trip gift.
Yes — we offer business accounts with wallet-based prepaid credits, employee management, and consolidated billing. Great for travel-heavy teams.

Run through this quick checklist — most issues are fixed in under a minute:
1. Toggle Airplane Mode on, wait 10 seconds, then off. This forces your phone to reconnect to the network.
2. Restart your phone. Boring, but solves a surprising number of issues.
3. Check the signal bars on your Roamata line. If you have zero bars, you may be in an area with weak coverage — try moving or going outside.
4. Confirm data is enabled on the Roamata line. iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data → pick the Roamata eSIM. Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → set Roamata as the mobile data SIM.
5. Make sure data roaming is ON for the Roamata eSIM (yes, even though you're using Roamata — see the roaming FAQ).

Quick wins: turn on Low Data Mode (iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data Options) or Data Saver (Android: Settings → Network & internet → Data Saver). Both throttle background app refresh and reduce streaming quality.
Other tips: lower streaming quality in Netflix/Spotify/YouTube, disable auto-photo upload to iCloud or Google Photos while traveling, and use Wi-Fi whenever it's reliably available.
Yes. If speeds are not adequate, manually switching networks may help.
On Android, go to Settings → Mobile networks → Network operators (or Choose network) and turn off automatic selection. Pick one of the available networks, usually T-Mobile, AT&T, or Verizon in the U.S.
On iPhone, go to Settings → Cellular, tap your Roamata eSIM, then choose Network Selection and turn off automatic selection. Try another available network and give it a minute to reconnect.
Some banking and government apps detect mobile networks and may behave differently when you're connected via a foreign carrier (e.g. asking for extra verification, blocking access).
If an app needs to confirm you're 'home', switch to your primary SIM's data temporarily or connect via Wi-Fi from a trusted network.
