Before booking, I open the map and look for three boring things: groceries, transit, and a casual place to eat within ten minutes. If those are nearby, the trip usually feels smoother, even if the hotel is twenty minutes from the famous square. I also read reviews for words like “walkable,” “local,” and “easy at night,” because those details matter more than a lobby photo. The best stays are rarely the ones closest to the postcard view. They are the places where mornings are simple and getting home at the end of the day does not feel like a second itinerary. Reliable phone data helps too, because the right neighborhood is easier to enjoy when you can check transit, translate a menu, and find your way back without hunting for WiFi. Choose the area you want to live in for a few days, not just the attraction you want to stand in front of once.
